Dear F/J student/scholar,
The Duration of Status (D/S) rule change has been paused temporarily by a federal judge’s injunction. The final rule will not go into effect as scheduled previously on 15 September 2026.
Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a preliminary injunction on 14 September 2026. The preliminary injunction prevents the federal government’s changes to the duration of status rule, as published on 17 July 2026, from going into effect on 15 September 2026. This injunction is not a final decision. The court will continue to review the case and issue a final ruling at a later date.
