Thank you for contacting ISS! We are happy to serve over 6,000 international (F and J visa) students on campus and over 1,000 working on post-completion employment authorization throughout the U.S.

To best serve our students, please choose only one method of communication with ISS. Please do not email or call multiple staff members with the same question or request. This will prevent delays and confusion when we respond to your inquiry.

Thanks again!

Spring 2020 Office Hours

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

ISS will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2020, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We will be back for normal operations on January 21st.

During office hours, our Student Advisement Center (front desk) is available for document drop-off and pick-up and for basic questions related to your immigration status or campus resources.

Spring 2020 Walk-in Advising

  • Wednesday, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

You can walk in for advising. No appointments are necessary.

Walk-in advising can be busy for ISS. Use walk-in advising for questions that take 5-10 minutes. If you have a topic or question that may take more time, please schedule an advising appointment in advance.

ISS Advising Staff offers 20 minute appointments for students Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during office hours. You may schedule advising appointments through your TerraDotta student portal.

How to make an appointment with an ISS Advisor:

  • Click on the TerraDotta “Home” button on the top left of the page.
  • Scroll down to “Staff” and click.
  • Scroll down the page to “International Student Services.”
  • Click on the name of an advisor who you would like to meet with and a form will come up.
  • Type the subject of the appointment in the subject line (i.e. OPT questions, “I want to learn about CPT;” or “travel questions“).
  • Click the blue text that reads, “Click to Request An Appointment.”
  • Select a time for your appointment by clicking a specific available time slot in the new window.
  • Add any additional message you need to share with the advisor. (Note: if you are scheduling a phone appointment, please include your phone number.)
  • Click “send.”

You should receive an email within a few minutes confirming your appointment. If you do not receive the confirmation, you may want to try to set the appointment again.

We provide phone service for basic questions throughout the week. If you would like to speak with an advisor, please schedule a phone appointment through Terra Dotta. ISS Staff supporting phone service are not responsible for answering advising-related questions.

Monday through Friday
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. & 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

(608) 262 – 2044

We will not have phone service available on the following days: January 17th, 2020 and January 20th, 2020

If we are not able to answer your call, please leave a detailed message, including your legal name and U.S. phone number. If you are calling to check the status of a request you submitted to ISS, your call will not be returned. Please continue to check your email for updates on your submitted request. ISS receives a very high volume of phone calls and multiple requests. Please help us to serve you better.

You can expect a response Monday through Friday during ISS office hours. Email response times will be up to 5 business days. Please send only one email that includes your name, WiscID Number, and all of your questions. This will prevent delays and confusion when we respond to your inquiry.

We request that you not email us to check the status of your request. Please use patience and check your email; we will email you to follow up with any questions and to let you know the final status of your application.

Any request or application you submit to ISS may take up to 15 business days to process. ISS business days are Monday-Friday, except for holidays. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate requests to expedite your application. Your request will be processed in the order that it is received and assigned to an available advisor.

Applications must be complete for ISS to review and process requests. If you submit an incomplete application to ISS, we will be unable to process your application. In this case, you will be asked to resubmit a completed application. Your application will take up to 15 business days to process after it has been resubmitted to ISS and assigned to an available advisor.

At this time, we are not able to provide status updates on your request. Continue to monitor your Wiscmail account (or personal email if you are on post-completion OPT or Academic Training) for status updates.

Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN), and I-20/DS-2019 travel signature requests may take 1-3 ISS business days. We will email you when the document is available for you to pick up at ISS.
