Hello! My name is Safiya, and I am a second year PhD student in Education Leadership and Policy Analysis- Higher Education. I speak Somali, Swahili, English and a bit of Arabic. I am currently a graduate teaching assistant at the department of Education Leadership and Policy Analysis, and I am an International Reach Ambassador with the REACH program. As an international student from Kenya, I am passionate about international students and their lives on campus. This passion has been reflected on my professional journey previously working with the International Student Service office as a Peer Advisor. It has been equally reflected on my academic journey where my research interests revolve around the experience of international students with focus on African international students. I joined ISAB to advocate and share concerns of international students especially those who are underrepresented within the campus community. I also hope to share ideas based on my academic and professional experiences which will hopefully impact policies that surround international students on campus.
