Yunqian Huang

Hi! My name is Yunqian (yween-chien) Huang, and I’m a senior studying consumer behavior & marketplace studies and sociology. My name means “clouds” and “grass growing thick” in Mandarin, and it represents the Mongolian grasslands since I’m Mongolian Chinese. I grew up in Canton, China and I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese. My favorite things to do on campus are going to women’s hockey and volleyball games, visiting record stores, and walking to Picnic Point. I’m currently a community-based learning intern at the Morgridge Center for Public Service and a student assessment analyst at housing. Before that, I worked as a first-year seminar peer mentor and learning community program assistant in Chadbourne, as well as a mail & data entry staff member at the UW Survey Center. I still remember how lost I was getting my first campus job my sophomore year, explaining working hours restrictions to my supervisor, filling out paperwork, taking the bus to the social security office by myself, filing taxes… There were so many times that I wished I could go to someone for help or just talk about how hard and confusing these processes are with someone who had similar experiences. Being a member of the ISAB, I hope to make the student employee experience better for international students and help create a safe and comfortable space for peer-to-peer employment-related help and discussion.

大家好！我叫黄云芊，是消费者行为与市场研究和社会学专业的大四学生。我的名字“云”和“芊”（草木茂盛）代表的是内蒙草原，因为我是蒙古族。我在广州长大，会说普通话和粤语。我在学校最喜欢做的事是看女子冰球和排球比赛，逛唱片店，和步行去Picnic Point。我现在在Morgridge公共服务中心当社区导向学习实习生，还有在住宿部当学生评估分析师。在这之前，我在Chadbourne宿舍当过新生研讨会学生导师和学习社区项目助理，在学校调查中心当过邮寄和数据录入工作人员。我到现在还记得我大二刚拿到第一份学校工作的时候有多迷茫，要向领导解释国际学生工作时长的限制，填各种表格，自己一个人坐巴士去社会安全局，报税… 我经常希望我可以找人寻求帮助，或者哪怕就是能和有相同经历的人聊一聊这些过程有多难多复杂。作为ISAB的一员，我希望能提升国际学生的在校工作体验，并帮助创建一个安全舒适的空间，以便国际学生在学校工作这方面互相帮助和一起讨论。
