Hi! My name is Allen, and I’m a junior majoring in Nursing with a certificate in Consulting. I was born and raised in Shenyang, China. While this is my first year serving as an ISSAB member, it’s not my first experience with ISS—I’ve also been a REACH Ambassador through the ISS REACH Program. Over the past year, I served on the University Housing Dining Advisory Board, advocating for students’ needs and dietary preferences. I’m excited to bring that advocacy to a broader platform through ISSAB. Outside of academics, I love being involved on campus and connecting with others—swimming and walking to Picnic Point are two activities ‘living’ in my everyday schedule. Reflecting on my journey, I still remember the feelings of exclusion and uncertainty I experienced during my freshman year. Navigating campus life as an international student in healthcare majors was not easy, and I know we are not alone in that, no matter what majors we are from. Many of us have faced challenges that go unnoticed. If you’re reading this and going through a tough time, please know that you are not alone. I see you, I hear you, and I’m here to support you. In the past, I’ve done what I could to support those around me with my influence. Now, I’m grateful for the opportunity to use my voice, networks, and experiences to advocate for all of us. I’m committed to ensuring that your voices are heard and your experiences are represented at the table.
