ISS Photo Contest Rules and Entry Form

Do you have great photos from life in Madison, your home country, or from vacations you have taken? International Student Services invites UW-Madison international students and family members to participate in our annual International Photo Contest. Submit your photos and see if the judges pick YOU as a winner! You may enter one photo per category. Winning photos will be displayed at events, in publications, promotional materials, on campus, and in the community. You will always be given photo credit.

Contest Categories

  • International Culture (Festivals, International Holiday, Pop Culture, Traditions)
  • Nature (Aerial, Flowers, Landscapes, Seasons, Sunset, Trees, Underwater, Wildlife)
  • People (Children, Culture, Family, Lifestyle, Portrait, Self-Portrait, Wedding)
  • Wisconsin Experience (your best experience in Wisconsin and/or your best UW experience)

Contest Rules

Eligibility: UW-Madison full–time international students and family members. Students must hold F-1or J-1 STUDENT visas. Family members must hold F-2 or J-2 DEPENDENT visas.

Photos: Photos must be the original work of the participant. You may enter only one photo per category. Panoramic photos will not be accepted. Submit all photos electronically in JPEG format.Winning photos will be enlarged to 12 x 18 so please consider the resolution and ratio of your photo. High resolution and 3:4 photos are recommended in order to meet quality requirements for enlarging prints.

Submit: Please complete the ENTRY FORM below including a description of the photo in 300characters or less. Descriptions will be published when photos are on public display. It also gives judges a context for the photo. Save the entry form to your computer as a pdf and reopen it to be sure that your text appears on the form. Send the entry form as an attachment along with your photo(s) to issprograms@gmail.com. Incomplete entries may not be considered for judging.

Permission: In submitting a photo, you are granting ISS royalty-free permission to use, reproduce and distribute your photos in displays related to the contest, future printed and electronic publications, fundraising, promotional materials and the right to use your name and home country when giving your photo credit.

Judging & Prizes: Photos will be judged by a panel of students and professional staff on the criteria of creativity, originality, photo quality and artistic expression. Minimal use of Photoshop is highly valued by judges.  Winning photos will be announced in Access ISS. Winners will be invited to a reception to be held in their honor. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in all categories.
