WAIE TEAM POSITION DESCRIPTION
ATESL Representative
Term: Three years
Appointment: By Chair
The WAIE Recruitment, Admissions, and Preparation (RAP/ATESL) Representative addresses the needs of professionals working in English as a second language programs, sponsored program agencies, and overseas advising. The RAP/ATESL representative is asked to have experience in administering and/or teaching ESL and be willing to work with other ESL professionals to plan program sessions for the state conference and other activities for the membership in the state with an ESL focus. In addition s/he must also alert the State Legislative Whip to legislative issues or concerns involving ESL Institutions or Programs. S/he must also have support and encouragement of her/his home institution to carry out the RAP/ATESL State Representative's responsibilities. Attending both the annual state conference and spring planning meeting is required.
Education Abroad Representative
Term: Three years
Appointment: By Chair
The Education Abroad (formerly SECUSSA) Representative is the WAIE head of the Section of U.S. Students Abroad. The EA representative is asked to have experience in study abroad issues and be willing to work with other study abroad professionals to plan program sessions for the WAIE conference and other activities for the membership in the state. The representative also serves as a liaison between state EA members and the EA regional team of NAFSA, facilitating a two-way flow of information. The representative should also identify potential members and encourage membership in WAIE and EA section. This is a three year position. Prior membership of WAIE is required.
ADSEC Representative
Term: Three years
Appointment: By Chair
The ADSEC representative is the WAIE head of the Admissions Section. The ADSEC representative is asked to have experience in admissions issues and be willing to work with other admissions professionals to plan program sessions for the WAIE conference and other activities for the membership in the region. The representative also serves as a liaison between NAFSA regional ADSEC members, facilitating a two-way flow of information. The representative should also identify potential members and encourage membership in WAIE and ADSEC section. This is a three year position. WAIE membership is required.
COMSEC/KISS Representative
Term: Three years
Appointment: By Chair
The COMSEC/KISS representative for the Wisconsin Association of International Educators (WAIE) promotes initiatives aligned with the Community and Campus Programming Section, one of the five sections of NAFSA for our state. The COMSEC/KISS representative is expected to have knowledge and experience in working with volunteers in community or campus programs, international student advisors, program coordinators, and/or other campus staff. The mission of COMSEC/KISS is to increase cross-cultural exchange and understanding among:

Members of university campuses,

Community members statewide.
This mission is advanced by providing education and training to campus and community programming leaders and volunteers, by encouraging the development of cross-cultural programs, and/or by promoting partnerships between campuses and communities. Examples of community/campus programming include, but are not limited to, home-stay hosting programs, friendship families, conversation partners, spouse and dependent support programs, international living centers, new student orientations, cross-cultural workshops, speakers' bureaus, and recruiting/retaining volunteers. The COMSEC/KISS representative facilitates the development of program sessions for the state conference and other activities for the membership in the state. The representative should also identify potential members and encourage membership in WAIE, NAFSA and the COMSEC/KISS section. Attending both the annual state conference and spring planning meeting are essential.
CAFSS/KISS Representative
Term: Three years
Appointment: By the Regional Chair
The CAFSS/KISS representative is the WAIE head of the Council of Advisors to Foreign Students and Scholars. The CAFSS/KISS representative is asked to have experience in foreign student/scholar advising and programming issues and be willing to work with other CAFSS/KISS professionals to plan program sessions for the state conference and other activities for the membership in the region. . The representative also serves as a liaison between NAFSA regional CAFSS/KISS members and the WAIE team, facilitating a two-way flow of information. The representive should also identify potential members and encourage membership in WAIE and CAFSS/KISS section. This is a three year position. WAIE membership is required.
Two-Year/Community College Representative
Term: Three years
Appointment: By the Chair
The Community College Representative will assume a primary responsibility for membership outreach to two-year colleges with the goal of increasing both membership and conference attendance within the state. She/he will communicate with community/two-year colleges, identify the two-year/CCís in our state, and the current contacts working with international students and study abroad programs at each of the two-year/CCís. The representative will identify and promote strong programs and personnel with expertise and develop a cadre of such persons to ensure strong WAIE conference program sessions that will be of interest to two-year college personnel. He or she will encourage the use of and participation in workshops, consultations and other WAIE services, assist in the development of international programs for two-year/CCís for our state conferences, provide reports, and work closely with all other members of the WAIE team to develop programs for the region and the two-year/CCís. The representative will maintain an awareness of pertinent literature and international programs and opportunities of merit and will help with the orientation of his or her successor. The representative should also identify potential members and encourage membership in WAIE. This is a three-year position. WAIE membership is required.
Committee on Immigration Policy and Practice Representative (CIPP)
Term: two years
Appointment: By Chair
The CIPP represents the regulatory interests of the membership for our state. This representative is expected to have experience working with other professionals in the regulatory area. The CIPP plans program sessions for the state conference that also involves contacting government officials. The CIPP must be available to WAIE members to answer questions regarding regulations and policies affecting non-immigrant students, scholars, and teachers. They must participate in state Team meetings as a representative for members within the state working with immigration-related issues and selected federal legislative initiatives. The CIPP State Representative must have current experience in immigration in educational settings, preferably including detailed experience with non-immigrant students, scholars, and/or teachers. S/he must also have support and encouragement of her/his home institution to carry out the CIPP State Representative's responsibilities. Attending both the annual state conference and spring planning meeting is required.
WAIE Chair
Term: 3 years
Appointment: Elected by Wisconsin Association of International Educators (WAIE) Membership
Nominees must meet the following qualifications:
* The person must be a NAFSA member of record.
* S/he must have served on the WAIE Team.
* S/he must work in Wisconsin.
The person elected will serve for three years. Service will include 1 year as chair-elect, 1 year as chair, and 1 year as past-chair for the WAIE.
The chair-elect assists the current WAIE chair. The chair of WAIE has responsibility for overall State Conference program content, overall state business, and appointment of state team representatives for vacant positions. The past-chair serves as Treasurer for the WAIE.
In addition to being a key part of the WAIE leadership, the position involves representing WAIE to Region V NAFSA by facilitating a two-way flow of information between the state and regional NAFSA and serving as liaison with regional NAFSA as part of the Region V Team. The Region V Team meets in the winter once per year at the site of the next Regional Conference, once at the annual NAFSA conference, and again at the regional conference as well as communicates via e-mail throughout the year. Attendance at these meetings is required. Also required is attendance at the Region V conference held during each of the years of service.
IT Liaison
Term: Three years
Appointment: By Chair
The IT-SIG Liaison will 1) identify relevant computer topics and coordinate the organization of computer-related sessions for the annual state conference, 2) identify individuals who can contribute to conference sessions and training efforts, 3) arrange for the distribution of IT SIG and other computer-related information and training materials at the WAIE conference, 4) serve as a resource for those with questions about access to and/or use of electronic forums of interest to international educators, 5) advise the WAIE Team on technical issues related to conference planning and other team efforts and initiatives, 6) assist with the creation of a WAIE web site, in coordination with the WAIE team, 7) help WAIE to utilize available technology to a greater degree than at present. The IT SIG Liaison should also identify potential members and encourage membership in WAIE. This is a three-year position. WAIE membership is required.
Membership Coordinator
Term: Indefinite, Until Terminated by Coordinator or Chair
Appointment: By Chair
The membership coordinator is responsible for overseeing membership activities at annual conferences and during preparation for the annual conference, which include:
a. Coordinating efforts with the Conference Chair and Local Arrangements Chair to run a membership table which entails creating membership information displays, staffing the table so that members are there to brief prospective new members on membership benefits and to process membership applications and acting as a liaison between WAIE and the new member should confusion occur.
b. Working with the WAIE team and Conference Chair to identify nonmembers to invite to the conference to encourage member/nonmember networking. Following the conference, send letters to all non-member conference participants with information on WAIE and membership.
The Membership Coordinator is responsible for coordinating membership development activities such as:
a. Coordinating efforts to recruit identified academic institutions and individuals to become WAIE members.
b. Coordinating (written or telephone) surveys to gather data on potential traditional and nontraditional member organizations.
c. Writing newsletter articles on membership issues.
d. Identifying and coordinating attendance sister organization conferences to establish inter-associational alliances and resource networks and to increase awareness of the value of WAIE as a source of information.
e. Initiating other membership recruitment activities as seen valuable by WAIE and special interest groups.
f. Identifying member activities and accomplishments of interest to the association.
g. Promoting the value of new members to current WAIE members in the state and soliciting current members' partnership in recruiting new members.
Knowledge of the association and some experience in the field, public relations experience, communication skills, and data base knowledge are essential. Strong organizational abilities are important. WAIE membership is required.
