OPT Data Validation Please note that this OPT Data Validation project is completely separate from the new regulations allowing OPT extension for certain students with STEM degrees. For more information on this, please visit the ISS website at http://www.iss.wisc.edu/OptRuleAnnouncement.asp . Recently the Department of Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) requested that schools collect employer information for all students currently participating in Optional Practical Training (OPT). The previous regulations required all F-1 students to report any address changes within 10 days of moving, including address changes while on OPT. This rule still applies. In addition, the federal government has now created new regulations requiring schools to collect further information from our students currently on OPT. Students must now report their employer’s name and address. Students who are currently unemployed must report this as well. As long as students are actively searching for employment, there is no penalty for being unemployed temporarily. However, another new ruling from the federal government states that “students may not accrue an aggregate of more than 90 days of unemployment during any post-completion OPT.” For students currently on OPT, please review the information below and respond accordingly:
We are asking students to provide this information in an email to iss@odos.wisc.edu by FRIDAY, MAY 30 th using the following format: LAST NAME: This address reporting is an on-going requirement. For future changes to your address or your employer’s name and address, you must notify ISS by completing the online OPT information update form, found on our website at: http://www.iss.wisc.edu/upload/documents/information%20update.pdf . You must report temporary unemployment to ISS this way as well. Thank you very much for your cooperation,
