  • INTERNATIONAL REACH

    Interested in serving as an global ambassador? International Reach is the answer for you! International Student Services invites you to join International Reach, a volunteer program that allows international students, scholars and family members to give cultural and issue-oriented presentations about their home country in local schools, campus venues and community organizations. For more information, visit http://www.iss.wisc.edu/reach or email reach@studentlife.wisc.edu. To become a volunteer, simply attend one of the upcoming information sessions on Wednesday, March 9th & Monday, April 4th. All sessions begin at 5:00 pm and are held in Mezzanine C of the Red Gym.

  • International Student Photo Contest

    Show us the world through your lens! Deadline for submissions: March 23, 2011. You can submit NOW!! For details, see: http://iss.wisc.edu/photocontest2011.html

    2011 Categories include:

    International Landscapes (seascapes, city/urban or country/rural scenery of any country or region of the world, including your home country, others you have visited, or the US);

    Cultures, Traditions & People of the World (festivals, food, national celebrations, family or community);

    The Badger Experience in the USA
    (people and friends you have met in the US, your best Madison experience, your best UW or college Experience). Prizes will be given for 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place and Honorable Mention in all categories.

    Prizes: gift certificate to the University Bookstore, Round trip Van Galder bus tickets to O'Hare Airport, and more!

    Eligibility to participate: Contestants must be UW-Madison international students or family members of an international student all holding F or J visas only. Submissions are accepted electronically.
  • Student Discussion: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women Monday, March 21, 4:30-6:00pm, Grainger Hall, Room 5120

    Be a part of discussions taking place on campus about significant global issues. Together with the Global Health Initiative, the ISS – Millennium Development Goals Awareness Project will lead the interactive, student discussion on this week's topic: gender equality and the empowerment of women around the world. Discus the challenges, learn about relevant volunteer opportunities, help envision new multidisciplinary research ideas that you can be a part of. Students from all majors encouraged to attend! Light food and beverages will be on hand, but the discussions will be even more nourishing.   • Taste Of Cultures: Discover Japan! Thursday, March 24, 6:00-8:00pm, On Wisconsin Room, Red Gym

    Do you like sushi? Are you curious about geishas? Have an interest in Japanese culture? Join us at this event to hear presentations about Japanese life, and enjoy free samples of authentic Japanese food. Expand your world view by learning about the cultures and customs of Japan from UW-Madison Japanese students. This event is free, but space is limited! Be sure to arrive early! No registration is necessary.
  • Out and Abroad: LGBT Panel and Social Tuesday, March 29, 5:00-7:00pm, MSC Lounge, Red Gym & Armory

    Considering studying or traveling abroad? Come listen to this panel of U.S. and international students to hear about their experiences living/studying in another country and identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). The panel will be followed by an opportunity to make connections with globally-minded friends and to enjoy good food. Come share your wisdom, experiences, and stories. (This session was canceled in February due to a snow storm. Hosts are planning for better weather this time!)

    The College of Agricultural & Life Sciences along with the Center for Global Health is proud to present Undergraduates with a new and outstanding range of unique global health field opportunities that are both local & global, including experiences in Milwaukee, the United Nations, Bad River Reservation, Ecuador, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Nepal and China! The credits from the field experiences will count toward the required experiential learning for the proposed undergraduate certificate in global health, although students do not need to be a part of the certificate program to enroll.
