NEWSPAPERS

LOCAL

Madison has one daily newspaper, the Wisconsin State Journal, published every morning including Sunday. You can buy the newspaper at newsstands or drug stores, or you can arrange to have it delivered to your home by calling 252-6363.

Two free weekly local news publications are Isthmus, issued every Thursday, and The Cap Times, which comes out on Wednesdays. You can pick them up at numerous locations on campus and throughout the city.

The satirical weekly publication The Onion is also free. "News" and features are not to be taken seriously, but the listings of events are reliable

NATIONAL

The New York Times is an excellent source of news from other countries and is available at newspaper sections of drug stores. You can also look at the news for free on the Internet at http://www.nytimes.com/.

INTERNATIONAL

If you'd like to check up on the news from home, the periodicals room on the second floor of the Memorial Library maintains an excellent and up to date collection of international newspapers and periodicals. You can also purchase international newspapers at bookstores in the State Street area. Most big international newspapers are available on the web, too.

CAMPUS

The Daily Cardinal (262 5854) and The Badger Herald (257 4712), two student-run campus newspapers, are also available free of charge on campus. They are published every day but Saturday and Sunday.

Wisconsin Week, the official newspaper of record for UW-Madison is published biweekly during Fall and Spring semesters. It contains news, feature articles, and listings of campus events. Copies are available at both Unions, Bascom Hall, Memorial Library, and the Red Gym.

News@UW-Madison, maintained by the Office of News and Public Affairs, is a web site that offers regularly updated new about campus events and issues. The site is located at http://www.news.wisc.edu/, and you can sign up to receive news updates by email.

ISS publishes an electronic newsletter every month (ISS BYTES). All international students should receive the newsletter; if you don't, be sure to contact ISS. Read the newsletter carefully to get the latest information on resources, events and immigration regulations.
