FIELD TRIP House on the Rock and Governor Dodge
State Park This SATURDAY, April 21st,
8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Meet at the Red
Gym @ 8:00 AM You will need to
bring a bag lunch or money to purchase food. This
is a reminder that the BRIDGE Field Trip is coming up this Saturday, April 21st
where we’ll be heading to the House on the Rock attraction and then making
our way to Governor Dodge State Park where you can spend time hiking around,
go in search of the waterfall, or just chat with friends while enjoying the
great Wisconsin outdoors! So far the
weather for Saturday looks great – mostly sunny with a high of 55°F. For
those of you going to the Sara Bareilles concert that
night, don’t worry, we’ll be back at
the Red Gym by 6:00 PM. Make sure
to dress
for the weather and wear good walking/hiking shoes for exploring the
landscape. And of course,
don’t forget your camera! If you’ve
already paid, remember that the cost covers your entrance fees to both attractions
and breakfast (probably bagels) and snacks.
You need to bring your own lunch or money to buy lunch. There are 13 spots left for the field trip so feel free
to invite your friends – ANYONE and EVERYONE (aka non-BRIDGErs)
are welcome! Just make sure that they
bring $25 (exact cash) to the ISS main office by Friday, April 20th
by 4:00 PM!
The House on the Rock is the grand vision of Alex Jordan, who
believed that sights and sounds were the most effective means of stimulating
the senses. The House of the Rock has
room after room of some of the world’s most unique and eclectic collections
which has amazed thousands of visitors each year.
Governor
Dodge State Park is one of the state's largest parks, with 5,350 acres of
steep hills, bluffs, and deep valleys plus two lakes and a waterfall.
The open fields and woods edges are great places to observe wildlife,
especially in early mornings and late afternoon. |

Upcoming Event – BRIDGE Banquet As the semester is being to come to a close, we would like to invite
you all to join us for a celebratory dinner in your honor. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank
all of you for your participation in BRIDGE, recap the semester, and offer
all of you a chance to share YOUR BRIDGE experience with us. If you’d be willing to speak a little bit
about your partnership and involvement in BRIDGE this semester, please let us
know (email or fb: bridge@studentlife.wisc.edu)!! It doesn’t have to be long (no longer than
5 min) and isn’t a speech – it’s just you sharing with us and with the BRIDGE
group how your partnership/friendship has developed over the semester, some
of the cool things you’ve done, and your reflections on the BRIDGE program –
or, you could say whatever you’d like!
We’ll also be giving out awards to some of the outstanding
participants this semester! |

If you haven’t seen the PROM pictures up on facebook, you better go take a look because there are few
words to describe how the BRIDGE Prom went…FANTASTIC! The decorations were perfect – they
consisted of the colors of the rainbow…or of colors of the BRIDGE teams! Jay was kind enough to share his lovely DJ-ing skills with us and while he was spinning tunes on the
1’s and 2’s, there was a slide show of people’s prom pictures going through
(there were some |

Journals! As
you know, the deadline for handing in journals is quickly approaching! Journals are
due Friday, April 27th. Keep in mind, these journals don’t have to
be super novels, but they really need to include your reflective thoughts
about your experiences in BRIDGE. It
is easiest to write a few paragraphs each time you meet with your partner or
after a BRIDGE event. You can write
them in many different media forms as well- in the past some people have done
PowerPoint slides, scrapbooks, and video entries. In case you misplaced your Journal
Guidelines you can find it online here http://www.iss.wisc.edu/bridge/journal.html. Remember the journals are part of your commitment to BRIDGE
and we do use them to determine how the program is doing and how participants
are experiencing BRIDGE. We do value
your insights so please turn on in. For the US participants, if
you want to be considered for the fall 2012, make sure that you will submit
your journal with some efforts. |

Calli’s
Couch – Don’t forget to have an experience Something that I think a lot
of students struggle with, especially international, is how to balance school
work with having a Wisconsin experience.
Heck, as a senior this year, I’m having problems juggling school,
work, and organizations and experiencing Wisconsin for the last time as an
undergraduate. Although we’re all here at
UW-Madison to study, it’s important to find time to explore Wisconsin because
before you know it your time here will be done and you would have only seen
the Madison campus. Think about this,
instead of spending the whole weekend study, take a few hours to go explore
the UW-Arboretum (all of the lilacs are in bloom and smell so nice), or if
your partner invites you to visit their home town with them, absolutely say
yes – it’s an opportunity to experience Wisconsin (or Minnesota) as someone
does who is from the area. You can
always study during the car ride, or when you get home. School is definitely
important, but don’t forget about experiencing Wisconsin (hint hint…come on
the field trip) and all it has to offer – it is a pretty amazing state! |

Sean’s Sentiment – Spring in Madison (Photo Journal)
Finally!
Spring is here in Madison! :D Flowers, Trees, Grasses, all are getting
colors. I heard there will be a farmers market ‘outside’ from this weekend.
Make sure that you will check out with your partner! The end of this semester
is near. Cheer up guys! |
